Abstract
Stochastic network calculus is a newly developed theory for performance modeling and analysis of communication networks with focus on stochastic service guarantees. This talk gives an introduction to the theory. The content includes: (1) background and basic properties required for network calculus; (2) traffic and server models of stochastic network calculus; (3) fundamental results of stochastic network calculus; (4) example applications for performance analysis of wireless networks.
Biography
Yuming Jiang received BSc from Peking University and PhD from National University of Singapore. He worked with Motorola from 1996 to 1997. From 2001 to 2003, he was a Member of Technical Staff and Research Scientist with the Institute for Infocom Research, Singapore. In 2004, he joined Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, supported in part by the Fellowship Programme of European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM). Since 2005, he has been a tenured full Professor at NTNU. He visited Northwestern University, USA from 2009 to 2010. His research interests are the provision, analysis and management of quality of service guarantees in communication networks. In the area of network calculus, his focus has been on developing models and investigating their basic properties for stochastic network calculus (SNC), and recently also on applying SNC to performance analysis of wireless networks. He has published more than 100 papers in internationally refereed journals and conference proceedings, and has made fundamental and significant contributions to the development of SNC. He is author of ”Stochastic Network Calculus”, the first dedicated book in the SNC area.
He was Co-Chair of IEEE Globecom 2005 - General Conference Symposium, TPC Co-Chair of the 67th IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) 2008, and General/TPC Co-Chair of International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS) 2007-2010. Since 2010, he has been the ISWCS Steering Committee Chair. He is General Chair of 2014 IFIP Networking Conference.
